Purdue spoils Hawkeye Homecoming

The Purdue Boilermakers spoiled the Iowa Hawkeyes Homecoming on Saturday, coming away with a 24-7 win. Wide receiver David Bell had another monster day with 240 yards on 11 catches with 1 touchdown. Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell went 30 of 40 passing for 375 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Purdue took the lead for good with a touchdown pass :19 before halftime from O’Connell to TJ Sheffield. The Boilermakers would add a 31-yard field goal and Bell’s touchdown to seal the win in the second half. It was the first time an AP top 2 team lost to an unranked team at home since 2014.

Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras had a tough day going 17 of 32 passing with 4 interceptions. Ivory Kelly-Martin had the lone score of the day for Iowa on a 3 yard run in the second quarter.

Purdue improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big 10. Iowa suffers their first loss of the season and are now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Big 10 play.

Next up for the Hawkeyes is a bye week, followed by a trip to Madison, WI to face the Badgers.
