The Ballard Bombers dominated the line of scrimmage and took down the Atlantic Trojans 48-0 on Friday night in Huxley. The Bombers set the tone early forcing a three and out for Atlantic’s opening possession and then put together a 14 play drive that took five and a half minutes off the clock. They capped it with an 18-yard touchdown run by Eli Rouse to grab the early lead and never looked back.

The Bombers scored on their first four possessions of the game and built the lead to 28-0 by halftime. Bombers quarterback Ashton Hermann threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in that opening half. A big momentum shifter was a 70-yard bomb to Jayden Cattell as time expired at the end of the first quarter. Instead of letting the quarter switch to get the wind at their back, Ballard quickly lined up for the long shot and Hermann’s throw was on the money.

The Bombers opened the second half with an 8 play drive that finished with a 12 yard touchdown run by Hermann. The PAT put the score at 35-0 and the running clock rule was in effect for the rest of the game.

Hermann finished the game 9-14 passing for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also ran for 140 yards and two more scores. Ballard improves to 2-2 on the season. They open up district play next week at Humboldt.

Atlantic falls to 1-3 on the season. They open district competition next week in Adel against the ADM Tigers. We’ll have that game on KJAN.
