The Audubon Wheelers football team is off to a solid 2-0 start to the season with wins over Southeast Warren and Boyer Valley. Audubon Head Coach Sean Birks said his team has played great for stretches but still feels like they haven’t reached their full potential.

Audubon only lost two seniors from last year’s squad but they were big contributors. Ethan and Joel Klocke were the top receivers and tacklers for the Wheelers in 2020. Coach Birks said Carter Andreasen and Matthew Beisswenger have done a good job of working to fill those important roles. The Wheelers have also gotten a great start from their star quarterback Gavin Smith with 3 scores through the air and 7 on the ground. Coach Birks said the strength of the team all starts up front with starters returning on the offensive and defensive lines.

The Wheelers face last year’s 8-player runner-up Fremont Mills this week. Coach Birks said they relish the chance to get to play strong programs like the Knights, and they have a mutual respect for each other. We’ll have coverage of the game Friday night. Chris Parks will have the call from Chis Jones Field on AM 1220, FM 101.1, KJAN.com, and video on KJANTV. Our night starts with the pick ’em show Who’s Gonna Win? at 6:00 p.m. followed by pregame at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
