Trojan LogoThe Atlantic Trojans football team is looking to bounce back after two deflating losses to start the season. The Trojans have been close in the first half of each of their first two games but second half mistakes have led to two shutout losses. Atlantic has a familiar foe coming to town as they try to right the ship, former district opponent Shenandoah Mustangs. Shenandoah is coming off a nice comeback win over Nodaway Valley in Week 2 after dropping their opener to Missouri Valley. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer was impressed with Shen’s comeback win over the Wolverines.

Coach Brummer said they know the Shenandoah offensive strategy will be to get the ball to their leaders as much as they can. Morgan Cotten is an experienced hard nosed running back and Blake Herold is a big target on the outside. Coach Brummer said those same offensive stars will lead an aggressive defense.

The Trojans and Mustangs will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at the Trojan Bowl Friday night. A number of things will be happening surrounding the game as well. The Atlantic community is raising funds to donate to the family of Grace Johnson, a Shenandoah student who recently passed in a tragic automobile accident. All fans are encouraged to wear blue in honor of Grace, a 50/50 raffle will be held, and a free will offering will be taken at the gate and you may donate online at gofundme – https://www.gofundme.com/f/hnmbnk-help-the-johnsons or venmo – @forGraceJohnson. Steele McLaren and family will present the funds to the Shenandoah school staff to pass on to the family.

It will also be first responders night with the school district’s Joy Crew holding a tailgate prior to the game, to pay special recognition to First Responders, Firefighters and Law Enforcement. The event takes place between 5:30- and 6:45-p.m. They’ll be treated to a pork sandwich and other goodies. At half-time of the game, those who helped battle the fire at the Atlantic Middle School recently will be recognized, along with their colleagues, especially in light of the 20th Anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks.

Atlantic’s 1970 undefeated football team will be recognized at the game as well.
