MANNING, Iowa — Democrat Dave Muhlbauer, of Manilla, has announced the launch of his campaign for U.S. Senate against GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley. Muhlbauer is a fifth-generation family farmer, former Vice Chairman of the Crawford County Board of Supervisors and member of the Iowa Association of Counties, generational Democrat and lifelong Iowan. In a video released today (Monday), Muhlbauer says, “Iowa has been my home all my life. This is where I live, where I grew up, where I’m raising my family. Having the grassroots connection to Iowa and its soil is who I am. It’s why I’m running for Senate. We have the possibility to make Iowa a leader, through farming and education, infrastructure and health care.”

Muhlbauer’s campaign says he running against GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley, “as a voice for the little guy— the working families, farmers, and rural communities— who have long been left behind by the politicians and policies in Washington, D.C.”   His staff say as a farmer raising corn, beans, alfalfa, hogs and cattle, Muhlbauer has seen first-hand the devastation of rural communities at the hands of policies that cater to corporate interests and profits instead of working people.

He says he’s running to give the people of Iowa a seat at the table and improve the lives of all Iowans through common sense changes like expanding access to health care, technologies like broadband and fiber optic internet, combating climate change through sustainable agriculture, and raising wages to make the state a national leader once again so workers and young people see long-term opportunities in their own communities.

In the coming days, Muhlbauer will make campaign stops across the state, including Mason City, Cedar Falls and Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, Dubuque and Davenport, Des Moines, and Sioux City.
