2 Hawkeyes punch their tickets to Eugene

COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The University of Iowa track and field team punched two tickets to Eugene, Oregon, and set a school record on Day 2 of the NCAA West Regionals.

Laulauga Tausaga brought home the gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 17.97 meters and Kat Moody finished 12th with a career-best 16.65 meters. Tausaga and Moody punched their tickets to Eugene to compete at the NCAA Championships final site.

Myreanna Bebe broke the school record in the 100 hurdles with a career best of 13.12. Bebe placed 15th and qualified for the quarterfinals on Saturday. Jenny Kimbro and Paige Magee finished 40th and 44th with times of 13.57 and 13.68, respectively.

Mallory King placed second in her heat with a time of 2:07.64 to punch her ticket to Saturday’s 800-meter quarterfinal.

Cortney Strohman placed 34th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.28. Mariel Bruxvoort placed 30th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 60.03.

LaSarah Hargrove closed the night for the Hawkeyes with a 27th-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 23.66.

Amanda Howe and Allison Wahrman competed in the women’s hammer, but technical difficulties prevented the field from completing the event. Nia Britt will get three hammer attempts Friday morning at 11 a.m. (CT).
