Iowa COVID-19 update for 4/17/21: State surpasses 2-million vaccinations; 8 additional deaths & 7 additional cases

The Iowa Department of Public Health’s Coronavirus dashboard, Saturday (today),said there were eight additional deaths reported over the previous 24-hours, bringing the pandemic death toll to 5,878. Long-Term Care facility deaths account for 2,299 of the total number of deaths across the state.

There were seven additional positive test results for COVID-19 returned from the labs, for a total of 388,331. There remain three Long-Term Care facility outbreaks, with 30 positive cases among residents and staff within those facilities.

Iowa reports over two-million (2,005,757) COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered, and 851,762 individuals have completed the vaccine series.

Health officials say COVID-related hospitalizations are on the rise, from 226 Friday to 233 Saturday, and there are 50 COVID patients in an ICU (unchanged from Friday). The IDPH says 57 people with COVID symptoms were admitted to a hospital across the state, compared to 43 the previous day. And, 19 patients remain on a ventilator.

RMCC Region 4 hospitals (those in western/southwest Iowa) show: There are 25 hospitalized with COVID, two more than on Friday; 11 COVID patients are in an ICU; six people were admitted with symptoms of COVID, and there are now three COVID patients on a ventilator.

The 14-day positivity rate in Iowa is unchanged at 4.6%. There’s also no change in the seven-day positivity rate, which stands at 4.3%.
