Atlantic grabs big win over Harlan with second half push

The Atlantic boys basketball team has been searching for a complete game signature win. They got one on Thursday night over Harlan 73-60. The Trojans got a big night from Skyler Handlos with 26 points and Garrett Reynolds was huge off the bench with 13 points and a strong haul of rebounds.

The game was tied at the end of the first at 17. Atlantic was able to build an 8 point lead in the second but the Cyclones responded with a 9-0 run at the end of the half to take a one point lead into the break. Brayton Schechinger came of the bench to hit two threes and Connor Frame converted a three point play with just over a second left to give the Cyclones an edge.

Skyler Handlos got the first bucket of the second half to give the Trojans the lead back and they never trailed again. The Trojans outscored the Cyclones 17-5 in the third quarter to lead by 11 heading into the fourth. The Cyclones got within 8 early in the fourth but the Trojans quickly answered with a 7-0 run to build the lead back up. Dayton Templeton added 12 to help the Trojans improve to 5-5 on the season.

Harlan was led by 12 points from Connor Frame and 8 from Brad Curren. The Cyclones fall to 5-6 on the season and will next up face Boys Town on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. at Creighton’s Sokol Arena before visiting Denison-Schleswig next Tuesday.

Atlantic will now prep for a Saturday home game against Creston. That game will be a 4:00 p.m. varsity tip-off.
