IA COVID-19 update for 9/20/20: Positive results continue to rise in area counties

The Iowa Department of Public Health’s Coronavirus dashboard Sunday (as of 10-a.m.), indicated there were 881 new (Positive) COVID-19 cases reported since 10-a.m. Saturday, and one additional death. As of Sunday, the IDPH reported 80,009 total COVID-19 cases, 57,512 recoveries and 1,265 deaths since the pandemic began. Officials report 860 of the COVID-19 deaths involved persons with pre-existing conditions.

Cass County has one more positive case of the virus, for a total of 129. Elsewhere in the KJAN listening area: Adams, Montgomery, Shelby and Union Counties all have one new positive case of COVID-19. Mills County has four. Madison County has two new cases. Adair County has three, Audubon County has six, Guthrie County five new cases, Harrison County has eight, and Pottawattamie County has 38 more cases of COVID-19.

There have been 735,876 Iowans tested for the virus. IDPH reported 5,581 lab test results received in the previous day, with 604 positive results and 4,964 negative results. IDPH reports a positivity rate of 8.7% over the last 14 days.

IDPH reported 39 long-term care facilities with coronavirus outbreaks, unchanged from the previous day. There are 896 positive cases and 468 recoveries within those facilities. There have been 664 deaths in Iowa’s long-term care facilities.

Across the State, hospitalizations declined to 269. The number of patients with COVID-19 who are in an ICU is down to 73; 46 people were admitted to a hospital since 10-a.m. Saturday, compared to 34 people in the previous report. There are 38 patients on ventilators across the state, compared to 40, previously.

In western/southwest Iowa, hospitals report 10 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 (1 more than on Saturday); 4 are in an ICU (2 less than yesterday); four people were admitted to an area hospital with symptoms, which is two more than on Saturday, and one person remains on  ventilator.

  • Union County: 121 cases; (85); 3 deaths.
