2 hurt in northeast IA crash, Sunday

Two people were injured during a collision between a pickup truck and a semi, Sunday morning, in northeast Iowa’s Chickasaw County. According to the State Patrol, a Ford F-350 pickup driven by 21-year old Hunter Poppe, of Shell Rock, was traveling north in the southbound lane of Highway 63 from the exit ramp with Highway 18, when the pickup collided nearly head-on in the right lane, with a 2015 Peterbilt semi, driven by 58-year old Ricky Toutges, of Byron, MN. The collision happened at around 7:10-a.m.

Poppe suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital in New Hampton and then to the Mayo Clino by helicopter. He was not wearing a seat belt. Toutges suffered minor injuries in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Dept., IA DNR, IA DOT MVE, Mercy One Air, New Hampton Fire & Rescue, and New Hampton Ambulance.
