The CAM Cougars baseball team got back in the winning groove on Wednesday night with a 13-2 win in 5 innings over the Audubon Wheelers.  After dropping their first two games of the season to ranked Class 2A opponents on Monday and Tuesday, the Cougars bounced back with a strong outing.

It was a close game early with a 1-1 score after 1 1/2 innings. Then the Cougars took advantage of some Audubon errors to take control. CAM score 2 runs in the bottom of the second when some miscommunication in shallow center led to a dropped potential final out by Audubon. CAM scored three more in the third as Ben Tibken made it in on a fielding error. Joe Kauffman and Cade Ticknor scored when a pickoff attempt to second by Ethan Klocke sailed into centerfield.

Then the Cougars really poured it on in the 4th with a 7 run frame. The barrage was highlighted by a three-run homerun from Cade Ticknor to left-center, his third round-tripper of the season. That inning pushed the lead to 13-2 and the Wheelers weren’t able to pull under the 10-run mercy rule in the 5th. After the game Ticknor talked about his homer.

Ticknor said this was a big game for the team to get back on track.

CAM improves to 11-2 on the season and have one more regular season tune-up on Friday at West Central Valley before starting District play on Saturday at home against Orient-Macksburg.

Audubon falls to 9-6 on the year and they will host Earlham on Thursday before they host Ar-We-Va in District action on Saturday.
