Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Bedford Homicide

(Updated w/info. from KCCI/Radio Iowa) BEDFORD, Iowa – Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Sunday, said local authorities got a 9-1-1 call from the Skylark Motel in Bedford at around 11 o’clock Saturday night and the person was reporting a death. Taylor County Deputies who responded found 62-year-old Penny Sue Godfirnon of Bedford had been assaulted with a knife. Thirty-two-year-old Christian Andrew May of Bedford was arrested and faces a first degree murder charge.

K-C-C-I reports May is Godfirnon’s son. He is listed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. May was transported to the Taylor County Jail and arrested on charges that include First-Degree Murder – Class A Felony, and Willful Injury – A Class C Felony.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
