Atlantic fights to the end but falls to St. Albert baseball 10-6

The Atlantic Trojans baseball team battled until the final out against St. Albert on Monday night but came up short 10-6. The game was tied at 6 after four innings of play but the Falcons put up 1 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th, and 1 more in the 7th to grab the victory. Atlantic got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th with two out. Colin Mullenix hit a deep shot to center field and Lance Wright made a diving summersault grab to end the game just in front of the fence.

The Falcons jumped on top right away with a 3-run first inning. The Trojans got 1 in the bottom half of the 1st, then after a quick 2nd the Falcons added 1 more run in the 3rd to lead 4-1. Atlantic had a big response in the bottom of the third, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits and left 3 more on base. St. Albert responded with two runs on three hits in the 4th to regain the lead before Atlantic tied the game at 6 with a run in the bottom of the 4th.

Issac Sherrill finished the final 3 2/3 innings for the Falcons on the mound and only allowed 1 run on no hits. Starting pitcher Jaxson Lehnen was big at the plate going 4-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Brett Klusman had a big night going 3-4 with 4 RBI and 1 run scored. The Falcons improved to 7-0 on the season and will host Denison-Schleswig tomorrow night.

Brody O’Brien took the loss for Atlantic going 5 1/3 innings with 3 strikeouts and allowing 10 hits. Gunner Kirchoff had a couple of big hits in the game with an RBI single in the first and a 2 RBI double in the 3rd. Atlantic falls to 1-3 on the season and will travel to Kuemper Catholic on Tuesday.
