AMES, Iowa – Iowa State saw five of its volleyball student-athletes earn all-conference as part of the Big 12’s volleyball postseason awards, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Candelaria Herrera and sophomore Eleanor Holthaus earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, junior Piper Mauck and redshirt sophomore Avery Rhodes earned All-Big 12 Second Team and freshman Annie Hatch was named to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team. All five are receiving their first postseason honors from the Big 12.

Herrera, a junior from San Juan, Argentina, has had a terrific two-way season for the Cyclones. In attack, she has 2.22 kills per set at a team-high .317 hitting percentage, an efficiency that ranks fourth in the Big 12. On defense, Herrera is second on ISU with 0.94 blocks per set, a number which rose to 1.18 per set against league opponents. She has 98 total blocks on the year, just two away from her second-straight 100-block season.

Holthaus, a sophomore from Richmond, Minnesota, was the Cyclones’ leading attacker throughout the 2019 season. The right-side led ISU with 3.24 kills per set, sixth in the Big 12, which she got at .255 hitting. Her 16 matches with at least 10 kills led ISU, while she also had four double-doubles on the year, posting 2.36 digs per frame. Holthaus earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after recording 19 kills against Oklahoma on Nov. 15.

Rhodes, a redshirt sophomore from Waco, Texas, has bounced back from a 2018 hip injury to have a big season for the Cyclones. Rhodes lads ISU in blocking with 1.06 blocks per set and has improved her hitting, notching 1.92 kills per set at .279 hitting. Rhodes was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after a 10-block effort at Ole Miss back in August. Two of her biggest offensive matches came in ISU’s biggest wins, notching 13 kills at .440 hitting at Iowa and 14 kills at .400 hitting vs. Oklahoma.

Mauck, a junior from Des Moines, has orchestrated the Cyclone offense while stepping up her defensive game in 2019. She is third in the Big 12 with her 10.36 assists per set, setting the ISU attack at a .238 hitting percentage. She has also called her number more frequently this season, recording 68 kills, including a career-high eight vs. K-State. Her 10 double-doubles lead Iowa State, while her 2.58 digs per set rank third on the team.

Hatch, a freshman from Mesa, Arizona, has become a reliable option on the pins for Iowa State. Hatch is second on ISU with her 2.80 kills per set, while her 274 total kills on the season ranks fifth among Cyclone freshmen in program history. She has 11 matches with at least 10 kills, with the highlights including 18 kills vs. Coastal Carolina and 17 kills against Western Carolina.

Iowa State will be in action for the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Championship on Friday when they take on Creighton in Minneapolis. First serve will be at 4:30 p.m.
