Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Luka Garza scored a career-high 30 points and Jack Nunge broke out of his scoring drought to start the season as Iowa defeated Oral Roberts 87-74. Garza, whose scored 25 on three difference occasions, had 18 points in the first half as the Hawkeyes built a 55-40 halftime lead.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Cam Mack scored a career-high 24 points and Nebraska raced to a 31-point first-half lead on the way to defeating South Dakota State to get Fred Hoiberg his first win as Cornhuskers coach. Nebraska struggled to score its first two games, but came out hot, hitting 60 percent of its shots in the first 15 minutes of the game.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Isaiah Moss poured in 21 points to lead six Jayhawks in double-figure scoring, and No. 5 Kansas romped to a 112-57 victory over undersized and outclassed Monmouth. The Jayhawks ran their home winning streak to 23 straight games, third-longest in the nation behind only Tennessee and Gonzaga. Deion Hammond had 17 for the Hawks.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Paul Scruggs scored 14 points and made a layup with 11.6 seconds left as No. 21 Xavier held on for a 59-56 victory over Missouri State. The Musketeers never trailed but couldn’t shake clear of the team picked to win the Missouri Valley Conference.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Zach Werenski scored 3:34 into overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues. With the Blue Jackets on a 4-on-3 power play, Werenski buried a shot from the right circle. He has a goal in three straight games.

UNDATED (AP) — Everyone hopes the playing surface at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium will not be the main story of Monday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. Coaches Andy Reid and Anthony Lynn said they have received favorable updates about the turf going into the game. Last year’s game between the Chiefs and Rams was moved back to Los Angeles less than a week before the game when the field was deemed unplayable due to rain and the stadium hosting concerts before the game.
