National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Nebraska – 600 AM CDT Sat Oct 5 2019

At 558 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 5 miles southwest of Fort Calhoun to near Springfield to 4 miles south of Elmwood. Movement was northeast at 50 mph. Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include…

Omaha, Council Bluffs, Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Plattsmouth, Ralston, Springfield, Louisville, Weeping Water, Fort Calhoun, Elmwood, Pacific Junction, Murray, Cedar Creek, Elkhorn, Murdock, Union, Nehawka and Millard.

This includes the following highways…Interstate 29 between mile markers 32 and 71; Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 1 and 11; Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 437 and 454.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Heavy rainfall is also occurring with these storms. Be cautious of ponding of water on roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
