Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marcell Ozuna’s bases-loaded double keyed a six-run second inning and surging St. Louis pounded out a 12-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals, who have won five straight, jumped on starter Gio Gonzalez (2-2) for eight runs in the first two innings en route to their 14th victory in 17 games.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs lost backup quarterback Chad Henne to a fractured ankle in their penultimate preseason game, and they signed veteran Matt Moore to provide some depth behind starter Patrick Mahomes. Henne will have surgery on the ankle he broke during Saturday night’s game against San Francisco. The Chiefs have two other quarterbacks on their roster in Chase Litton and Kyle Shurmur, but neither has distinguished himself in the preseason.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Adrian Martinez has accomplished a lot in one year as Nebraska’s starting quarterback. He says he has a lot to do before he is satisfied. Martinez put up the best numbers of any freshman QB in the country last year. The Cornhuskers won only four games. This year, Nebraska is projected to be much improved. The Huskers open at home Saturday against South Alabama.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Marcus Semien homered, tripled and drove in a career-high seven runs as the Oakland Athletics set season highs for runs and hits in a 19-4 thrashing of the Kansas City Royals. Jurickson Profar, Matt Chapman and Khris Davis also went deep for the A’s, who are locked in a tight race with Cleveland and Tampa Bay for the two American League wild cards.
