Bluffs teen admits to attempted abduction hoax

Police investigators in Council Bluffs said Wednesday (Today), that they spoke with a 15-year old female with regard to an alleged abduction attempt she reported to police Monday morning. In speaking with investigators, the girl recanted her story and admitted to fabricating the incident.

Authorities say the girl will not be charged with making a false police report. The recommendations police made to the general public on Monday, with regard to being aware of your surroundings while outside, and being alert for suspicious people/activity, are still very valid authorities say.

Police in Council Bluffs are investigating the alleged abduction of a teenager. Officers received a call at the 8:30-a.m. about a possible attempted abduction that had occurred in the area of Valley View and Mall Drive, in Council Bluffs. Police received information that a 15 year old female was running on Mall Drive when an unknown white male approached her and grabbed her by the arm. The female said that she struck the male and was able to run off. The suspect was described as being a white male, about 45-50 years old, who was wearing a black coat, blue jeans, grey shoes and a green stocking cap. Several officers checked the area but were unable to locate any suspects. The incident remains under investigation.

The CBPD would like to remind runners and bikers to be aware of their surroundings and whenever possible, travel in groups of 2 or more. Any suspicious people or activity should be reported to 9-1-1 immediately.
