COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Iowa State sophomore guard Tyrese Haliburton has been invited to the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team training camp from June 15-18 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Haliburton, one of seven hopefuls that played college basketball last season, is among 34 total players invited to the training camp. This will be the Oshkosh, Wisconsin native’s first experience with USA Basketball.

“It’s crazy, a year ago this wouldn’t even have been a thought,” Haliburton said. “This wouldn’t be possible without the people by my side and it’s truly a blessing. I look forward to possibly getting the chance to represent our country.”

Haliburton proved his mettle as an all-around player on the court for the Cyclones as a freshman. He averaged 6.8 points, 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals in helping Iowa State to the NCAA Tournament in 2018-19. He is one of four college freshman since 1992-93 to compile 125 assists, 50 steals and 30 blocks.

Finalists for the team are expected to be announced on the morning of June 18, and the team will be named prior to its departure for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Greece on June 24. Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens born on or after Jan. 1, 2000.

The USA will be led by head coach Bruce Weber (Kansas State), with assistant coaches Mike Hopkins (Washington) and LeVelle Moton (North Carolina Central).
