The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office reports two men held in the Pott. County Jail were presented with warrants out of Nebraska last Friday, for being a Fugitive From Justice. 55-year old Shawn J. Horton, of Omaha, and 31-year old DelShonte Lavaille Barber, of Council Bluffs, were read their warrants and then turned back over to jail staff. A man wanted on a warrant for Violation of Probation, turned himself in to the Pott. County Sheriff’s Office, Friday. Once the Violation of Probation warrant for 19-year old Ethan Edward Becker, of Oakland, was confirmed, he was booked into the Pott. County Jail.

On January 25th also, the Sheriff’s Office participated in the “I Pledge” program, in partnership with the Iowa Alcohol Beverage Division (ABD. The purpose is to enforce Iowa’s tobacco, alternative nicotine, and vapor product laws. Along with a youth participant, a Deputy conducted compliance checks with businesses in Pottawattamie County who sell tobacco products. At around 7:35-p.m., the youth participant entered the Love’s Truck Stop located at 10 E. Street, and attempted to purchase a pack of Swisher Sweet cigars. The clerk identified as 41-year old Roger Zimmerman, of Hancock, sold the youth participant the pack of cigars for $1.59. Zimmerman was cited into court under Iowa Code for being an employee providing tobacco to a minor.

And, a Deputy in patrol vehicle near parked near the Highway 6 and Railroad Highway intersection noticed a vehicle pass him a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked on radar as traveling 76 mph in a 55 zone.  The driver, 27-year old Daniel Lee Vorthmann, of Council Bluffs, was subsequently arrested for OWI/1st offense.
