Exira-EHK races past CAM in boys hoops

The Exira-EHK Spartans opened the game up with a 7-0 run and never trailed against the CAM Cougars on Monday night in a 74-50 win. The Spartans led 23-14 at halftime and increased the lead to double-digits in the second quarter. A wild three at the first half buzzer by DeShawn Carr got the Cougars within 8 at the break 40-32.

The Spartans then put the game away by opening up the second half with a 16-0 run. The Cougars didn’t get a bucket until about one minute left in the third quarter and finished with just 5 points in the period. The Spartans pulled away further in the fourth quarter to improve to 16-2 on the season.

The Spartans had two players, Trey Nelson and Josh Pettepier, finish with 18 points. Nelson hit 4 threes in the game and Pettepier scored all of his 18 from downtown with 6 triples. Cole Burmeister also had a strong night with 16 points. The Spartans head to Boyer Valley on Friday.

The Cougars were led by 11 from DeShawn Carr off the bench. The Cougars fall to 6-9 on the season and will travel to Woodbine on Tuesday.
