A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR PARTS OF THE KJAN LISTENING AREA UNTIL MIDNIGHT, HAS BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE: CASS, ADAIR, ADAMS, GUTHRIE, UNION, TAYLOR AND RINGGOLD COUNTIES. PREVIOUSLY, DALLAS AND MADISON COUNTIES WERE IN THE ADVISORY ALSO.

A wintry mix of mainly sleet and snow will affect areas east of Interstate 35 late this afternoon as it gradually moves off to the east, bringing a continued threat of slick and hazardous road conditions to those areas during the afternoon commute. Freezing drizzle will then develop across much of the advisory area by this evening into tonight, potentially creating icy and treacherous road conditions at times.

Finally, much colder air and gusty north northwest winds will surge into Iowa tonight and Tuesday, bringing the coldest air of the winter so far with wind chills approaching -20 degrees in northwest Iowa.
