The Atlantic boys basketball team struggled to take care of the ball and make shots in the second quarter, allowing the Kuemper Catholic Knights to seize control of the game and grab a 60-48 victory on Monday night. The Knights turned a three point first quarter lead into a 14 point advantage by halftime. Blake Baumhover scored 11 of his 13 first half points in that second quarter. A number of those points came on transition layups off of steals. Atlantic Head Coach Jeff Ebling said the team wasn’t executing the press break in that second quarter.

The Knights were helped out by some strong outside shooting from Ben Brincks. He hit 5 threes on the night on his way to a team high 17 points. Baumhover finished with 16 and Kyle Berg chipped in 12 points for the Knights. Kuemper Catholic improves to 3-3 on the season and will finish the pre-holiday portion of their schedule with a trip to Harlan on Friday night.

Skyler Handlos dropped in 22 points to lead the Trojans, who played without leading scorer Chase Mullenix for the second game in a row. Logan Reilly finished with 13 points and Tyler Moen had a rough shooting night and came away with 6 points. Atlantic falls to 4-3 and will travel to Gilbert on Friday night for their last game before the holiday break.
