Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs finally lost for the first time with Pat Mahomes at quarterback. But here’s the thing: There was no feeling of defeat in the locker room after the 43-40 loss in New England. The Chiefs came away with a sense of confidence and resolve with their ability to mount a comeback on the road.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska coach Scott Frost says his team had its best practice of the season Monday. That was after the excruciating 34-31 overtime loss at Northwestern. Frost remains concerned that his team will come to accept losing the longer it goes without a win. The Cornhuskers go into their home game against Minnesota this week winless in six games and on a program-worst 10-game losing streak.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State spent much of last season as college football’s plucky underdog. The Cyclones appear ready to burst back onto the national scene after a strange and sluggish start to 2018. They looked more dominant than endearing in throttling West Virginia. Iowa State dismantled the Mountaineers in a 30-14 victory that was much more one-sided than the final score indicated.
