Man takes off with stolen pickup & owner on the hood

A suspect in the theft of a pickup truck was run over by the vehicle after it crashed during a pursuit in Pottawattamie County. The Council Bluffs Police Department reports that at around 1-p.m. Sunday, a Council Bluffs officer was on the lot of Wal- Mart south,working an accident on the lot when they were approached by a man who had located his stolen F-250 on the lot of Wal-Mart.

When the unidentified suspect in the vehicle theft got into the F-250, the victim and officer ran over to try and stop the him. The victim jumped onto the hood of the truck as the suspect was starting the vehicle. When the suspect saw officer, the suspect fled the area with the victim still on the truck. The suspect fled the area at a high rate of speed and the victim was able to get into the back of the truck. As the victim broke the back window out of the truck to enter they cab area, the suspect went to jump out of the vehicle.

The truck left the roadway and struck a tree on the open driver’s door. The suspect fell under the vehicle and was ran over by a rear wheel. The suspect was transported to Jennie ER and then over to UMNC. The suspect is being treated for serious injuries. Authorities say because warrants are pending in this case, the suspect is not being identified at this time.
