Officials with the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Tuesday, released a report on an Officer-involved shooting in Creston. The incident began at around 11:55-p.m. Monday, when the Union County Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a report of a male subject with a gun sitting on a bench in McKinley Park, in Creston. The Creston Police Department and the Union County Sheriff’s office responded to McKinley Park.

Upon arriving in the area, law enforcement members located a male subject on a bench in McKinley Park.  Law Enforcement officers confronted the male subject and tried speaking with the male subject for several minutes.  The male subject advanced on law enforcement officers who ordered the male subject to stop and show his hands.  The male subject refused to obey the orders of the officers and then advanced quickly on the officers.  An officer with the Creston Police Department engaged the subject and fired his weapon striking the male subject.  The subject was given medical aid immediately but later died from his injuries.

The body has been transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, where an autopsy will be conducted tomorrow (Wed., August 15th). The officer involved in this incident has been placed on paid administrative leave per Creston Police Department Policy until the completion of the investigation.
