Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid dismissed his players early after a productive offseason program, joking that even he plans to take one day off before turning his attention to training camp. His young quarterback, Patrick Mahomes II, plans to take twice as many days off _ two of them _ before he plans to get back to work.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The annual doubleheader between Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake will come to an end after next season. The Hawkeyes say they are pulling out of the Des Moines-based event partly because the Big Ten is moving from an 18 to a 20-game schedule, which limits their options in non-conference scheduling.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida has established itself as “Pitching U” while advancing to the College World Series for the fourth straight season and seventh time in nine years. The staff features two first-round draft picks and an All-American closer. Throw in a pair of budding freshmen and the defending national champions might be as deep as anyone in the eight-team field. Florida’s pitching prowess will be on display when it begins play in Omaha, Nebraska against Texas Tech on Sunday.
