Here is the latest Mid-America sports news from The Associated Press

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Kolten Wong hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning, capping the St. Louis Cardinals rally and giving them an 8-6 win over the Chicago Cubs. The win is the fourth in a row for the Cardinals, and it came after they rallied from two runs down in the ninth inning off Chicago closer Brandon Morrow.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jordan Zimmermann allowed two hits over five scoreless innings, Nicholas Castellanos had three extra-base hits and the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2. Zimmermann improved to 4-0 with a 1.48 ERA in seven appearances, including six starts, against the Royals. Castellanos had an RBI double as the Tigers scored three runs in the first off Jason Hammel.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi scored the lone goal early in the first half, and Sporting Kansas City held on for a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids. Salloi scored for Sporting KC in the 16th minute. Ike Opara created the danger with a header across the face of goal, which Khiry Shelton headed into the post. Salloi calmly put the rebound back past a helpless Tim Howard into the top of the net.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs opened a three-day rookie minicamp after a draft filled with defensive selections. Outside linebacker Breeland Speaks, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi and hybrid linebacker Dorian O’Daniel could push for playing time right away.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Nathan Shepherd and Folorunso Fatukasi are two rookies who could make a big impact on the New York Jets’ defensive line. Shepherd was a third-round draft pick from Fort Hays State in Kansas and Fatukasi was a sixth-rounder out of UConn. Both have the type of athleticism and versatility that could get them into a playing rotation right away.
