Northwest Missouri State’s Mel Tjeerdsma selected for College Football Hall of Fame

Three-time DII National Champion Coach Mel Tjeerdsma has been selected as a member of the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame class. Tjeerdsma had a career record of 183-43 at Northwest and a coaching career record of 242-82-4. He began his career at Austin College in Texas.

Tjeerdsma became the school’s Athletic Director in 2013 after stepping down from the Head Football Coach position after the 2010 season. The Bearcats have won three more National Championships since he took over as AD.

Tjeerdsma is joined in the hall of fame class by coaches Mack Brown of Texas and Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech.  Ten players also are part of the class: Michigan defensive back Charles Woodson, Miami Hurricanes defensive back Ed Reed, Nebraska offensive lineman Aaron Taylor, Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson, Rice running back Trevor Cobb, Penn State quarterback Kerry Collins, Montana quarterback Dave Dickenson, Illinois linebacker Dana Howard, Georgia offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb, and Temple running back Paul Palmer.

The 2018 class will be inducted at the National Football Foundation annual awards dinner on December 4th in New York.
