The Atlantic Trojans boys basketball team had another slow start against Glenwood on Tuesday night but they were able to overcome it this time and knock of the 2nd-ranked and previously unbeaten Rams 59-41. Glenwood opened the game with an 8-0 run and it would of been easy for Atlantic to think about the 18-4 first quarter deficit they suffered in the December 12th loss to the Rams. This time the Trojans were able to weather the storm and stay composed and Head Coach Alan Jenkins was proud of how they responded.

The Trojans took their first lead of the game at 14-12 early in the second quarter and never trailed the rest of the way. Atlantic lead 22-14 at half and push the lead to ten 38-28 by the end of the third quarter. It was another big win for the Trojans beating the second top ten opponent in as many weeks after handing Harlan their first loss of the year last week. Coach Jenkins talked about the outlook for his squad.

The game got very strange in the fourth quarter with Glenwood being assessed four technical fouls down the stretch and tempers rising from coaches, players, and officials. Atlantic stayed out of the dust-ups pretty well and Coach Jenkins liked their composure given the circumstance.

Austin Alexander led four Trojans in double figures with 19 points and had 5 assists, Scott Leonard had 14 points and 8 rebounds, Chase Mullenix had 11 points, and Grant Podhjasky finished with 10 points. Mullenix talked about what led to the win.

Podhjasky was a huge lift hitting 2 first half buckets and he talked about what changed for his team at the midway point of the season.

Atlantic improves to 7-4 with the win and will next travel to Lewis Central Friday before taking on Wahoo Neumann of Nebraska on Saturday at the MAC Shootout. We’ll have both of those games on KJAN.

Glenwood had an off shooting night and finished with one player in double figures. Andrew Blum finished with 10 points of the bench. Nate Mohr and Christian Stanislav both finished with 9 points. The Rams are now 9-1 and will next travel to St. Albert on Friday.
