CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Luke Maye’s 26 points and 10 rebounds helped No. 9 North Carolina beat Northern Iowa 86-69 in the season opener. Maye’s 26 points were a career high, while freshman Garrison Brooks added 14 points. The reigning national champions were without two likely starters in Joel Berry II and Cameron Johnson due to injuries.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — No. 25 Iowa is on a roll as it heads into Camp Randall Stadium for a crucial Big Ten West division game against No. 6 Wisconsin. The confident Hawkeyes beat up on Ohio State last week. Now they face their second straight Top 10 opponent in the unbeaten Badgers, who can clinch a trip to the Big Ten title game with a victory.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — The highly anticipated debut of Michael Porter Jr. was brief. The Missouri Tigers did just fine without him in a 74-59 victory over Iowa State in the season opener.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Freshman Luka Garza scored 16 points in his debut, Isaiah Moss added 14 points and Iowa pounded Chicago State 95-62. Tyler Cook and Jordan Bohannon added 12 points apiece for the Hawkeyes, who shot 59.6 percent in their first game without Peter Jok, the Big Ten’s leading scorer a year ago.
