AMES, Iowa (AP) — A week after 23rd-ranked Iowa State struggled to beat Army at home in September 2005, it fell out of the Top 25. It would take a dozen years and three different head coaches for the Cyclones to finally return to the national rankings. Iowa State climbed back into the Top 25 at No. 25 on the strength of three straight wins, including victories at Oklahoma and Texas Tech. A huge tests comes Saturday at home against No. 4 TCU.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska running back Tre Bryant, who missed the last five games because of a knee injury, will have surgery that likely will end his season. Coach Mike Riley says the surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. The sophomore from St. Louis may be a candidate to get a season of eligibility back by petitioning for a medical redshirt. The Cornhuskers play at Purdue this Saturday.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jose Oquendo will return to his role as third base coach for the St. Louis Cardinals next season. Oquendo stepped aside after 16 seasons as the St. Louis third base coach because of health problems prior to the 2016 season. The Cardinals finished third in the National League Central this season and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin will host a free exhibition basketball game against Northern Iowa on Nov. 1. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Kohl Center. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue has scored only 21 points and one touchdown in its past 120 minutes in a 17-9 loss at Wisconsin and a 14-12 loss at Rutgers.
