DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The wife of a southwestern Iowa legislator who died after battling cancer says she’ll run for his House district seat. The Daily Nonpareil reports Carol Forristall announced her candidacy today (Tuesday). Her husband, Greg, died last week. The Republican had represented District 22 in the House since 2007. The district covers much of Pottawattamie County.
Carol Forristall says that before her husband died, he asked her to run. She says that as a legislator, she’d focus on providing Iowans the best schools in the nation, protecting agriculture and providing tax relief for middle-class families. She’s a longtime music teacher.
A special election is scheduled for June 27. The winner would serve through 2018, the remainder of Greg Forristall’s term.
