Iowa baseball set to visit Nebraska in B1G series

April 14th, 2017 by Ric Hanson

Iowa-Nebraska is a budding rivarly and Iowa baseball coach Rick Heller says his sport is no different. The Hawkeyes take a 3-3 Big Ten record to Lincoln for tonight’s (Friday night’s) start of a three game series against a Husker squad that is 4-1-1 in the league race. And it is a series that Heller would like to see played every year. With the Big Ten’s rotating schedule the Hawkeyes and Huskers did not even play in 2016.

The Huskers enter the series having won 10 of their last 12. Iowa’s thin pitching staff is even thinner with the loss of Sunday’s projected starter Kyle Shimp. The freshman left hander is 3-0 with an earned run average of 1.35.
