DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — About two months into the session, Republicans have moved quickly to capitalize on their control of both legislative chambers, but plenty of work remains as they push through a conservative agenda. Among the priority issues will be efforts to restrict abortion rights, ban local increases in the minimum wage and require identification at polling places.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Dubuque officials have approved plans for an all-inclusive field at a city park, supporting an effort to build a leveled, rubberized surface that could be used by children who have disabilities. The Telegraph Herald reports that volunteers plan to raise $3.5 million in private donations for the project at Veterans Memorial Park. A local nonprofit called Miracle League of Dubuque aims add a baseball field and playground with the flat surface to the park.

DENMARK, Iowa (AP) — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says a southeastern Denmark man has been shot, and his son is believed to be the shooter. Sheriff Stacy Weber says in a news release that deputies and medics found a man suffering from two gunshot wounds in a house Saturday morning. Authorities arrested the son in Fort Madison, and he was taken to juvenile detention center in Montrose. He has been charged with willful injury.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A veteran US congressman is voicing support for a right-wing Dutch politician who opposes immigration and has spoken against Islam. Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa, in a Twitter post, paid tribute to Geert Wilders, a veteran member of the Dutch Parliament who founded the Party of Freedom.
