TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — Michael Malloy ran for a career-high three touchdowns, Marcus Weymiller had 171 yards rushing and Northern Iowa beat Indiana State 39-6 on Saturday. Weymiller, a sophomore who had moved from running back to wide receiver this spring and came in with just one career rushing attempt, had 17 carries including a 57-yard run and an 11-yard run on back-to-back plays to set up Malloy’s second TD, a 5-yarder, that made it 20-3 with 6:58 left in the first half.

Ricky Neal returned an interception 18 yards to the UNI 47 and Colton Howell’s 40-yard pass to Jalen Rima set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Malloy to give Northern Iowa (4-5, 3-3 Missouri Valley Conference) a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

After Rondell Green returned the ensuing kickoff 43 yards, Indiana State (3-6, 2-5) went three-and-out. Rima fielded the subsequent punt and raced up the right sideline before cutting back across the field for a 97-yard touchdown — the longest punt return in UNI history. The Sycamores had minus-20 yards rushing in the second quarter and Northern Iowa built a 28-3 halftime lead.
