ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — Police have arrested a man they believe got out of his car at a busy Ankeny intersection and shot a handgun into another car. The Des Moines Register reports that the shooting happened Thanksgiving night at a heavily-populated intersection surrounded by restaurants and stores. Witnesses say the man got out of his car, knocked on the driver’s window of a car beside his, then fired his gun into the car before returning to his own car and speeding off.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Two people are dead and two police officers have been injured in a crash in Cedar Rapids. A police news release says the officers were helping control traffic around a different crash on Interstate 380 early Saturday morning when a vehicle slammed into the back of a police car. Police say the crash killed two people in the vehicle that hit the police car. Two officers inside the police car were taken to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

ROCKWELL, Iowa (AP) — Investigators say one person has been killed and two others injured in a three-vehicle crash in northern Iowa. The Globe Gazette reports that the crash happed around 7:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 65 between Rockwell and Mason City. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says a northbound pickup crossed the center line, hitting a southbound car head-on. The third car also traveling south hit debris from the wreckage, causing it to spin out of control.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Officials have used some outside-the-terminal thinking to avoid having to build an estimated $100,000 indoor service dog bathroom at the Des Moines International Airport. Airport officials had revealed earlier this year that a “service animal relief area” would be built in a boarding area to comply with new federal regulations. But the Des Moines Register reports that the airport has found an alternative _ a grass area just outside the terminal.
