OSAGE, Iowa (AP) — A man yelled obscenities at his victim and police after being convicted of first-degree kidnapping for the beating and imprisonment of a woman. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that deputies escorted 23-year-old Nicholas Lenz out of the Mitchell County courtroom Friday after he began yelling. He faces a mandatory term of life in prison for the kidnapping count as well as prison time for causing serious injury.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — By the end of November, Sioux City residents will no longer be able to recycle glass as part of the city’s curbside recycling program. The Sioux City Journal reports that the change comes after the company that processes Sioux City’s recyclables announced its decision to phase glass out of its facility, citing falling commodity prices and safety concerns. The city will instead begin collecting glass recycling at a handful of drop-off locations around the city in early December.

ALVORD, Iowa (AP) — Officials in the northwestern corner of Iowa say about 40 head of cattle have died after eating from a feed wagon that contained a ground-up battery. Sioux City television station KTIV reports that the Lyon County Sheriff’s department is investigating the incident at the Alvord, Iowa farm. Farmer Joel Moser says around 100 head of cattle have been affected by the tainted feed.

FLOYD, Iowa (AP) — Two Charles City residents have died in a crash near the northeastern Iowa town of Floyd. The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that the crash happened Friday afternoon on the Avenue of the Saints between Rudd and Floyd. The Iowa State Patrol says 75-year-old Marilyn Wulff and a passenger in her car, 14-year-old Jaden Wulff, where killed.
