Time to register for the 2016 Summer Iowa Games

AMES, Iowa – Register today for the 2016 Summer Iowa Games.  Now is your chance to participate in the Summer Iowa Games as they celebrate 30 years of providing sports and recreation opportunities for all Iowans.  In 1987, the Iowa Games offered 16 sports with 7,000 athletes on one weekend.  Today, the Iowa Games have grown to more than 60 sports with 13,000 athletes holding events from May to August.

Iowa’s premier multi-sports festival attracts participants from all of Iowa’s 99 counties. Although the city of Ames will host many of the sports throughout the month of July, overall, the 2016 Summer Iowa Games will be held in 28 different Iowa communities during the summer. The majority of competitions will take place July 9 and 10, July 14-17 and July 22-24, with a few sports being held in June and August. New events added to this year’s list include USSSA Baseball, High School Team Bowling, Hoover-Ball, Lacrosse, Spikeball, and Sport Skydiving. The Games has sports from A to Z, for athletes of all ages and abilities.

The 2016 Summer Iowa Games will officially kickoff with the Athlete Jamboree at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 15, in parking lots S6 and S7, east of Jack Trice Stadium, followed by the Opening Ceremony at 7:45 p.m. inside Jack Trice Stadium. Both events are open to the public. Proceeds of the Opening Ceremony will benefit the Iowa Food Bank Association. Registration deadlines are approaching in the next two months.
