HOUSTON (AP) — The NCAA men’s championship came down to one shot — and Kris Jenkins was ready for the moment. Jenkins canned a 3-point buzzer-beater to give Villanova its second NCAA men’s basketball championship, a heart-stopping 77-74 win over North Carolina.

ATLANTA (AP)— New Washington second baseman Daniel Murphy homered and lined an opposite-field RBI double in the 10th inning to give the Nationals a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Atlanta in the opener for both teams. National League MVP Bryce Harper homered in his first at-bat for the Nats.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — New Giants center fielder Denard Span had an impressive debut in San Francisco. Span homered and drove in five runs in San Francisco’s 12-3 rout of Milwaukee at Miller Park.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cole Hamels handed Felix Hernandez his first opening day loss and the Texas Rangers managed to win with just one hit, beating the Seattle Mariners 3-2. Prince Fielder blooped an RBI single off Hernandez during a three-run fifth inning that included three walks and two errors.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy won’t be charged over a Philadelphia nightclub brawl that left two off-duty police officers injured in a dispute over who would pay for a $350 bottle of Champagne. McCoy could still face discipline from the NFL.
