The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced its end-of-the-year major award winners on Wednesday morning, and current Buena Vista and former Audubon wrestler Brad Kerkhoff has been tabbed the IIAC Freshman of the Year.

This marks the second straight season that a Beaver wrestler has captured the award.  Nashid Barrow took home the honors in 2014-15.

Kerkhoff, who wrestled at 149 pounds for BVU this season, posted a team-best 20-14 record overall and went 2-2 in league matches.  He finished sixth place at the NCAA Regional Tournament and was runner-up at the Luther College Open early in the year.  He also excelled off the mat and was tabbed a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) following the season. Kerkhoff was also named BVU Freshman of the Year.
