Iowa State Ladies beat UAPB 70-41

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State’s women’s basketball team defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 70-41 at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday to move to 6-3. Freshman Bridget Carleton poured in 22 points, including a career-high six three-pointers.

The Cyclones closed the first quarter on 10-2 run, making their final six attempts from the field, to take a 23-18 lead. The run was sparked by a pair of three-pointers from Carleton late in the quarter after Iowa State had started the game 1-of-7 from long distance. Seanna Johnson led the way for ISU with seven points and three rebounds in the first stanza.
The second quarter was the Bridget Carleton show. The freshman made four three-pointers in a four-minute stretch to extend the lead. Carleton ended the first half with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Iowa State entered the halftime locker room with a 43-28 advantage.  Iowa State was able to go to its bench for the majority of the fourth quarter. The Iowa State defense surrendered just 13 points after halftime and held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 32.7 percent shooting for the game.

Iowa State will be back in Hilton Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 20 to take on Alcorn State at 2 p.m.
