Officials with the Woodbine Community School District have announced their intentions to begin talks with officials from Boyer Valley about staff sharing options after having discussions with other area school districts. Superintendent Justin Wagner, who is working in Woodbine as part of a sharing agreement with Harlan, told The Daily NonPareil it’s important that Woodbine maximize the amount of sharing dollars it can receive from the state by exploring sharing for administrative and business office positions.

Wagner said the goal is to get to 21 full-time-equivalent positions. The focus for next year should be the superintendent, transportation director, school business official and elementary counselor, he told the school board Dec. 23rd. Woodbine previously shared a superintendent with Boyer Valley. However, after he retired, both districts went in different directions, with Woodbine hiring an interim superintendent and Boyer Valley creating a combined superintendent and principal position.

Wagner became acting superintendent after interim Superintendent Chuck Scott resigned last month. He said district officials were in the middle of discussions with surrounding districts prior to Scott’s resignation. Throughout those conversations, Wagner said he learned there is willingness by other districts to share staff. He said he believes the best thing for Woodbine to do now is to explore options with its neighbor to the north.
