WASHINGTON (AP) — An Iowa man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography. Thirty-six-year-old Nicholas Michael Jackson of Boone, Iowa, was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Washington, D.C. He had pleaded guilty in March. Prosecutors say the registered sex offender shared about 20 images of child porn with an undercover officer.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Vision Iowa Board has awarded $1.1 million toward the renovation of a plaza in downtown Des Moines. The board awarded the money yesterday to the Cowles Commons Renovation, a $9.7 million project to replace a 35-year-old space previously known as Nollen Plaza. Demolition of the site began in October and completion of the project is expected in late 2014.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in Council Bluffs have arrested a man following an hour-long police standoff. Police Lt. Mark Galvan says Lucas Walk was taken to a hospital after being removed from the residence yesterday. A police dog had bitten him. Police say they had been trying to serve an arrest warrant to Walk and thought he might be armed but later found no weapons.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) — The case of a former Iowa jail guard accused of killing his pregnant wife has gone to the jury. The Henry County jury got the case yesterday. Seth Techel is charged with first-degree murder in last year’s death of his wife, Lisa, and their fetus. Prosecutors say he wanted to kill his wife to be with another woman. A defense attorney says a former neighbor may have been a better suspect in Lisa Techel’s death.
