Mayor Polland said he’s heard concerns from residents who need faster Internet speeds to work at home. Officials with Spiral Communications say expanded internet service also contributes to economic development, by attracting new businesses to town and assisting existing, home-based businesses.

Company officials say they hope ground work on the project can start in July and be completed by October. They will run the fiber optics underground in some areas, and connect to telephone poles in others.
