AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM CDT WEDNESDAY FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN THE KJAN LISTENING AREA: CRAWFORD-CARROLL-AUDUBON-GUTHRIE-DALLAS-CASS-ADAIR-MADISON-ADAMS-UNION-TAYLOR AND RINGGOLD, AND UNTIL 8-P.M. TUESDAY, FOR: HARRISON-SHELBY-POTTAWATTAMIE-MILLS-MONTGOMERY-FREMONT AND PAGE COUNTIES.

HEAT WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE COMING WEEK…PEAKING MONDAY AND TUESDAY. HIGHS WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S TO AROUND 105 DEGREES THEN SLIGHTLY LESS HOT WEDNESDAY. BECAUSE DEWPOINTS WILL BE IN THE 60S…HEAT INDICES WILL ONLY BE A FEW DEGREES HIGHER THAN THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE BUT WILL STILL BE AROUND 110 DEGREES.

THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND SOME HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY IF SIGNIFICANT PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT OBSERVED. THE PROLONGED NATURE OF THE HEAT…BOTH DAY AND NIGHT…WILL ACCUMULATE OVER TIME. PERSONS EXPECTED TO BE OUTDOORS FOR SEVERAL DAYS NEED TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION IN THEIR ACTIVITIES.

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER… STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM…STAY OUT OF THE SUN… AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES…NEIGHBORS…PETS…AND LIVESTOCK.
