WILLIAM “Bill” LaVERN THOMPSEN, 79, of Atlantic, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at Atlantic Specialty Care – Care Initiatives in Atlantic. Funeral services for BILL THOMPSEN will be held 11-a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut. Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

A Public visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 22nd, from 4-until 6-p.m.

Committal with military honors will be held at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut following the funeral.

Following committal, a luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut.

Memorials may be directed to the Bill Thompsen Family. They will be designated at a later date in Memory of Bill, and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.

His wife – Glenna.

His daughter – Stephanie.

His son – Dean.

His sisters – Mary Lou Willbrandt, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and Jeri McDaniel, of Carolina Shores, NC.
