CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa — The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office says a farm equipment accident resulted in the death of a northeast Iowa man. Authorities say the accident occurred December 29, 2025, on a farm in rural Holy Cross, along the northeast Iowa border. Authorities say their preliminary findings indicate the victim was working on the farm when he became entrapped in a piece of agricultural equipment. The sheriff’s office says the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity had not been released as of this report. The incident remains under investigation.
TAMA COUNTY, Iowa — A vehicle believed to be that of an eastern Iowa man who was reported missing in mid-December was discovered in Arkansas. According to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Nicholas Collins left his home in Garwin, Iowa on December 19. At the time, the sheriff’s office said it believed that Collins left his home and was traveling toward Gladbrook. The sheriff’s office also said that when Collins left his home, he left a note that said he was “going away for a while.” He has not been seen or heard from since.
On December 30, the sheriff’s office said Collins’ vehicle, a Mini Cooper, was picked up by license plate readers in southern Missouri. On New Years Day, law enforcement in Arkansas discovered Collins’ vehicle -minus the license plates – abandoned at the trailhead in the Ozark National Forest Region in Johnson County. Search and rescue teams were working in the area to locate Collins, as of the last report.
DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa now has the second lowest price per gallon of gas in the country. According to AAA’s January 2nd data, the price of gas in Iowa is on average $2.36 per gallon, with some of the lowest prices in parts of central Iowa. The only state that currently has a lower average gas price than Iowa is Oklahoma, which is roughly 12 cents lower.
WALCOTT, IA – A bomb technician was called in after firefighters found a display grenade in a home after a New Year’s Day fire in the far eastern Iowa town of Walcott. According Walcott Police, th fire was reported at around 3:30-p.m., Thursday. Two people and a dog made it out of the residence.
One person was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City to be treated for burns. The cause of the fire was officially listed as undetermined by the Iowa State Fire Marshal, but authorities say it appears to have been an accident.
After the fire was extinguished, crews found what was determined to have been an inert grenade intended for display only. The scene was declared safe.
