The latest Weather Briefing for hazardous weekend winter weather (released 5:15-a.m. 12/5)

The Des Moines National Weather Service in Des Moines, in its latest hazardous weekend winter weather briefing, says moderate to heavy snow can be expected Saturday afternoon and overnight, primarily over northern and central Iowa. The Weather Service says the snow will transition from west-to-east Saturday afternoon and evening, before ending Sunday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for counties in northwest Iowa from Noon until 9-p.m., Saturday, and a Winter Storm Watch will be in effect from Saturday afternoon through late Saturday evening for parts of western and central Iowa.

In the KJAN listening area, the Winter Storm Watch includes Sac and Carroll Counties. Officials say moderate to heavy snow possible, with total snow accumulations of between 4 and 7 inches possible.
