No. 3 Hawkeyes Fall to No. 4 Ohio State in National Duals Invitational Finals

TULSA, Okla. – The third-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team fell to No. 4 Ohio State, 27-12, in the finals of the National Duals Invitational.
“I know that we can do more,” said head coach Tom Brands. “I know we have some guys that are very disciplined. I know that we have guys that are very driven. I know that we have guys that want to get better every day, so we will go back to work.”
Iowa has now placed second five times at National Duals (1994, 1997, 1998, 2015, 2025).
Ohio State got on the board first with a first-period fall at 125 pounds as Nic Bouzakis pinned No. 10 Dean Peterson in 1:34. At 133 pounds, Ben Davino then won a 10-4 decision over No. 2 Drake Ayala.
The defending national champion at 141 pounds gave the Buckeyes bonus points with a 17-1 technical fall from top-ranked Jesse Mendez over No. 10 Nasir Bailey. A 3-2 decision at 149 pounds for No. 8 Ethan Stiles over Ryder Block extended the Buckeye lead.
At 157 pounds, No. 8 Brandon Cannon won a major decision over Victor Voinovich III, 14-2.
No. 2 Michael Caliendo got the Hawkeyes on the board with a sudden victory win at 165 pounds, defeating No. 12 Paddy Gallagher, 3-1.
No. 2 Patrick Kennedy followed it up with a sudden victory decision win of his own over No. 9 Carson Kharchla, winning 4-1 at 174 pounds.
No. 3 Angelo Ferrari made it three straight sudden victory decisions for the Hawkeyes, defeating No. 7 Dylan Fishback, 4-1.
No. 16 Massoma Endene picked up his fourth win of the weekend, defeating Seth Schumate, 8-3.
Iowa forfeited at heavyweight.
The Hawkeyes return to action Friday, Nov. 21, in Iowa City, Iowa, against Pittsburgh.
